JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and professional individual to build their career with our Transportation Department as a Van Driver. This is a dynamic role where you will be a key part of our Transportation Team with objectives including:

  • Safe and timely delivery and unloading of products to foodservice customers within assigned route
  • Strict adherence to DOT Regulations and Nicholas and Company Safety Policies
  • Demonstrating excellent customer service

 

 

What it’s like to work in the Transportation Department at Nicholas and Company

  • We are committed to providing a safe work environment. We encourage participation in our Performance Recognition for Operational Success (PROS) program. The points based program encourages completing monthly safety refreshers, stretching, providing safety tips, and recognizing each other for working safely. You can even earn points for showing up to work on a time.
  • Our goal is to be one with our partners in mutual success. Because meeting customer expectations are a must, quality and productivity are critical.
  • Flexibility is key; team members should be open to working voluntary and mandatory extra hours and to working at a fast pace.
  • Our trucks includes dry, cooler and freezer storage. We’ll provide your uniform and appropriate shoes, but be prepared to work in temperatures as low as -10.
  • This position is physically demanding. It will require you to lift, bend, and navigate heavy product down a ramp repetitively during your route

On a normal day/night you might:

  • Safely drive van to make deliveries to customers on route in the order assigned by the routing department
  • Make deliveries in the order that they are assigned by routing department, with any deviations being approved by immediate supervisor
  • Report any customer issues to supervisor at the time of occurrence
  • Treat customers with courtesy, patience and respect
  • Put product away correctly or as the customer requires
  • Complete thorough pre and post trip inspections
  • Accurately check off all staged van orders for short on load, mispick and damage prior to leaving for delivery to customers
  • Sign check off and route sheet and turn in to immediate supervisor.
  • Address any discrepancies with load or invoices prior to leaving the warehouse and immediately report delays to supervisor
  • Collect, sign, and correctly code all invoices. Check invoices for credit terms at each delivery stop and collect funds where needed
  • Follow up within 24 hours on all customer needs and requests
  • Turn in reconciliation sheet along with collected funds and all invoices to Driver Check in daily
  • Obey all traffic rules, complete thorough pre and post trip inspections, and immediately report any accidents or damage; keep equipment clean and report any vehicle repair issues immediately
  • Meet company attendance and hygiene standard requirements
  • Participate in formalized training to successfully pass evaluation

An ideal Transportation team member:

  • Is at least 21 years old
  • Possesses a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with clean MVR (no more than one ticket)
  • Meets all DOT requirements and possess current medical card
  • Has at least one year of commercial driving experience
  • Is able to read, write and communicate with internal team members and customers as it relates to the job and to safety regulations
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic math skills
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to lift 20-100 lbs. repetitively

Hourly Pay Rate:

  • Hourly pay rate is determined by location
